I read this book in my teens and it was a tattered lump of pages. I had to fix the pages with tape before reading them! What an experience it was when I got done with it. My interest in Napolean and the introduction to Talleyrand, albeit brief, has been the basis for all my historical heroes since that point!! A must read for any lover of good literature.

I READ THIS BOOK AS A TEENAGER. THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS HAVE NEVER LEFT ME. I DON'T HAVE THE BOOK NOW, BUT WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MY DAUGHTERS READ IT. IT IS THE "GONE WITH THE WIND" OF FRANCE.

It is one of the best novels I have read this decade. I love it so much I have dedicated to rewriting it in screenplay format so the movie will be worthy of claiming AnneMarie Selinko's Desiree as it's title. The movie with Marlon Brando was awful. It didn't follow the book at all. If you want a recap on the novel email me.

I read this book (in Portuguese)on my late teens. To my knowledge, the historic facts are correct, and the author wrote facts/fiction in a manner that it is a joy to read it. I have loved this book ever since. Unfortunately, when I moved to the USA I gave many of my books and Desiree was among them. I hope to find a copy of it someday so I may read it over and over again.

The best thing about this book was that it was a true story about the most powerful monarch of Europe at the time. When my dad 'loaned' it to a cousin I just knew I had seen the last of it.Here's hoping it gets published soon!

I read this book when I was in ninth grade and I have loved it ever since. I hope that I can find a copy of it someday for myself because when I have a daughter I want to be able to have her read it and love it. I wonder what would've happened if Napoleon if he had married Desiree?

It is my all time favorite book. It is very interesting from the historical perspective and gives the reader an inside look at the Napoleon era. Unlike the movie with Marlon Brando that was just too "sweet", the book portrays the feelings of its heroine honestly and the ironic twists in the story keep the reader fascinated all the way to the end.

This is one of my all time favorite books. My daughter recently read it and has also fallen in love with it. I have the copy because I "stole" it from MY mother. I wanted to buy a copy for my daughter (I'm not willing to give her my copy), and was not surprised by disappointed to find it was out of print. It had so much detail about the life in Napoleon's court, and the people all became alive again. To find out Desiree was a real person was a real thrill.

When I was 12 and lived in a still free Cuba (before the Communist Revolution) I read this book and it was such a catalyst in many ways! It made me fall in love with Napoleon, of course-- and his love story with Desiree became my romantic ideal. To this day I regret that one of the things I had to leave behind when we escaped Cuba was this book, which I have never been able to find again, since I wish my 21 year old daughter (who also loves History) could read. I am happy to have read all the 'reviews' from the Desiree fans and find out that this book has meant so much to so many women --in so many different countries!
