Dukes House, Swallowship

photo

Dukes House is a neo-gothic building designed by Francis Edward
"Frank" Caws (1846-1905).  It is situated in Woodland near the town of Hexham,
Northumberland and was allegedly built on the site of a cottage where
Henry Beaufort, 3rd Duke of Somerset, was captured in 1464 before being
taken to Hexham and executed. The Battle of Hexham was the final battle
in the Northumberland phase of the “Wars of the Roses” - Apparently!
