Restorations of the Imperial Theatre - Fontainebleau 2

The Imperial Theatre © FMR

THE RESTORATION PROJECT

A preliminary study phase has identified three unique phases of the restoration project :
- Phase One : restoration of certain rooms and periphery spaces (lobby and imperial salons, corridors and stairs).
- Phase Two : completion of the restoration in these periphery spaces.
- Phase Three : restoration of the stage and stage equipment.
The main phase of work began in spring 2013 and management of the project has been delegated to the Operator of Heritage and Cultural Building Projects (OPPIC). At the same time, a theatrical furniture restoration workshop has been installed at the heart of the château in the Belle Cheminée (Beautiful Chimney) Wing. Donor sponsorship of the second envelope will permit the ultimate completion of the restoration work of the stage and stage equipment.

THE RENAISSANCE OF THE THEATRE

With the completion of the main phase the theatre will be open to the public, integrated into the visiting galleries, in particular that of the Second Empire. With its final reopening, the theatre will host new shows, but these will be occasional and, in all cases, respectful of the existing provisions.

Opening to the public in the visiting galleries is planned for Summer 2014.

The Château de Fontainebleau thanks His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his great generosity that has made possible the renovation and opening of the Imperial Theatre.
